The Systems Engineer will be a key part of the Technical Services Team within boxxe and provide Support, Management and Administration to a broad range of Technologies\Services for all of our Managed Service customers. Services include: Public and Private Cloud, Networking and Systems Infrastructure (Compute, Storage etc.)
Key responsibilities
Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure for all managed customers. Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools whilst proactively working to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
What you’ll be doing
- Handling Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines.
- Deploying Azure VMs (Windows Server and Linux) in a highly available environment.
- Perform configuration management and disaster recovery tasks on Customer environments.
- Microsoft Azure IaaS Monitoring and Management, manage and monitor IaaS deployments by Log Analytics and Log Search to “drill down” into the most important data in your IaaS systems.
- Using PowerShell to deploy resources and repeatable deployments with ARM templates.
- Work on Microsoft Azure Networking.
- Design virtual networks to support workloads with the highest security and performance.
- Explore configuring hybrid connectivity between on-premises environments and Azure, and how to monitor network performance to comply with service-level agreements.
- Automating Deployment and Scale of Azure IaaS Solution script, automate, and scale Azure deployments.
- Dive into automation technology options within Azure.
- Keep learning the new ways to use PowerShell and JSON templates to define and deploy services to Azure, and how to scale resources in Azure.
- Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure for all managed customers.
- Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
- Maintain security, backup, resilience and disaster recovery strategies
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
- Provide 3rd level support
- Liaise with Vendors and other boxxe technical personnel for problem resolution
- Participate in the Out of Hours 24x7 3rd line On call rota.
What you’ll bring
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
- Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows and/or UNIX /Linux based environments.
- Experience in the administration and performance tuning of Networks, Operating Systems, Storage devices and applications including SQL Databases.
- Solid Cloud experience, preferably in Azure (IaaS and PaaS)
- Solid experience with Microsoft Office 365 and InTune.
- Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware)
- Experience with monitoring systems (e.g. LogicMonitor, Solarwinds, PRTG etc.)
- Experience with automation software would be desirable
- Solid networking knowledge and experience with Cisco, Sophos and Palo-Alto (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
- Ability to travel within the UK and work flexibly
